From a description of the American DVD release of Tactics:

"“Ever since he was born, Kantarou has had the 6th sense to see demons, and has become friends with them. One day a demon told him about an ogre-eating tengu, and ever since then Kantarou has been obsessed with it, and one day on a ghost busting case, finds him. He then names the tengu Harkua, and forces the tengu to be his slave.”

The Kantarou and Haruka in my head are wondering what kinky sex games it is they're playing, and why they weren't aware of it.

And I think I'm going to take the text off this icon, as it makes it look cluttered. And really, it doesn't need it.

I have come to the conclusion that Michael Pitt is a very good actor. I first discovered him in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and thought nothing more about him. Other than 'not a bad singer, good choice for the role'. Then, flipping through the channels in desperate need of background noise, we paused on 'hey, that guy that played Tommy!' It was 'Murder By Numbers', which I'd wanted to see since it was in the theater. I never realized that it was Michael Pitt in it. So I watched it, and was majorly impressed. That little guy's a damn good actor.

I am pausing for wonton soup and cherry soda before I'm running out on errands.

So, I've been unpacking some more now that things are all clean, and I had moment of wondering. On my original VHS copy of Vampire Hunter D, it bills itself as the first animated horror film for adults. Which begs the question 'what about Akira?' I'd consider Akira to be horror, and certainly for adults. And didn't it come out before VHD?

Ah well. Today is another massively productive day. I've been writing between RPing and unpacking, and doing a few other things as well. I always feel better when I feel like I've gotten things done. And the past couple of days I've been able to chat with people I haven't chatted with in a while, and that makes me happy.

And tonight is King Crab legs steamed with drawn butter. *drools*

Alrighty, back to the grindstone!

After a chat with [livejournal.com profile] zinjadu, it has been deemed that the word of the day is 'fuckwittery'. Because there have been so many damn examples of it today.

It started with an angry email from someone I didn't know accusing me of something (at this point, I'm still not sure what) that I had no knowledge of. This was a scathing letter calling me all manner of names and such and such. Didn't recognize the email, the name, IP address, anything. So I politely said 'I think you have the wrong email address, yadda yadda'. Got a response yelling at me for trying to get out of my well deserved punishment (which made my mind go kinky places) and such and such. I again respond with 'er, no, I really don't know you and don't know what's going on.' and get a flippant 'yeah, sure, we'll see tomorrow on the boards!'

Now, the only boards I post on are my Neopets guild boards. And no one on that site has my email address, nor is there any sort of drama at all there. I am very confused. About half an hour later, I get an apology, because yes, I wasn't the person they were trying to reach.

*headdesk*

Then we have the serial survey poster. If I see another 'why do you like slash fan fiction, I am a student so my survey is valid and can be posted in every single community ever with no attention to the rules' post, I will scream.

The next example of fuckwittery is my own. In playing with my shiny graphics program, I accidentally killed the project I was working on. It was a sad, sad day. I was angry and not happy, to say the least. But thank goodness for the 'undo' button. All was saved, and the peasants rejoiced.

I am counting GJs new comment features as fuckwittery, because the new format for commenting with a different username makes my brain hurt. I've ended up typing my password for my username about five times now.

Neopets was full of fuckwitty today, but that's normal.

And today's lesson has been 'I am intolerant of intolerance'. Which intend to put on an icon. I am relatively laid back, and don't give much of a fuck what people think/like/write, nor do I do care when people don't like what I like/write. ([livejournal.com profile] tiffangelwings and I had a very good discussion about this a while ago.) Basically, if people are going to flip out on me over shit that doesn't matter (rice kripsies anyone?), whatever. No skin off my teeth. I have my pairing preferences, you have yours. Seriously, no need to be an ass about it.

Cereal for everyone!

As I was reading the account of the Christina Pike trial, I made a conscious note of something I think we’re all aware of, but never really think about. Character dialogue is never written the way people actually speak. Transcripts of spoken monologues or conversations are generally stilted, choppy, full of repeated words, stutters and pauses. Oftentimes there’s a complete lack of grammar.

Now, writing dialogue exactly as one would transcribe a conversation is obviously going to look awful in fiction. But I think that, with dialogue, we should be allowed to be a bit more free with grammar, sentence and structure. I remember reading one review for a piece of fan fiction that featured a character who spoke rather poorly. This canon character had a habit of mixing up words, of mucking up his grammar, and of just sounding less-than-educated. And the author captured this perfectly, but was reamed over it in reviews.

Now, if the author had made grammatical errors in the non-dialogue parts of the story, I’d be right there with the con-crit myself. But in dialogue, for a character who ICly messes up his grammar, I don’t see a problem with it. It was done intentionally. And these people who nit-pick tiny details like that are always crowing about how you have to be realistic in your fan fiction. But heaven forbid that include IC mistakes.

Improper grammar in dialogue is accepted in published novels. And I don’t see this problem much in the HP fandom. Honestly, who’s going to get on an author for writing Crabbe or Goyle dialogue as less than brilliant? But in other fandoms, I’ve seen this more than a few times.

Thoughts? Opinions? The need to tell me I’m an over-analyzing geek with too much time on her hands?
