Watched 'Something the Lord Made' last night. I actually really enjoyed it, despite the premise not being one that really appealed to me. Alan Rickman proves yet again what a brilliant and versatile actor he is. And there's a scene where he's playing pool with a loosened tie. It's an emotional movie, and there are some bloody bits (it is about heart surgery) but I felt it was worth it.

Hermione has been keeping me up every night for the past two weeks. It's down to a routine at thi point. She comes out of her little house at around midnight, hunts her meal worms, eats what's in her bowl....and then decides to take her bowl and bash it against her rock. A thick ceramic bowl being banged against a flat sandstone rock by very strong hedgie jaws makes a damn loud racket. So I take the dish away. But this means that I've been woken up by it, and have to turn on the light and get out of bed to do this. And then she pitches a royal fit.

She has a jingly ball that until two weeks ago she'd play with all night. It was pretty much the only toy she liked. She showed no interest in a wheel or anything she could push. Now I'm at a complete loss as to what to do. She can't play with her dish, or I won't get any sleep. But she needs a new toy.

Any other hedgehog owners out there with a suggestion?

Untitled
Pairing: Hermione/Ginny, if you squint really hard
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG

Ginny was sitting on the bed in her room in the burrow when she asked Hermione to do her makeup. Hermione had a steady hand and a keen eye, and Ginny wanted to impress her latest beau. Hermione gave her baroque lips and pencil thin eyebrows, and held her chin steady while she worked. Ginny stared at herself in her mirror, finger hovering over her lips. Hermione said she looked classic, like an old fashioned muggle movie star.

Hermione rarely wore makeup herself.

Ginny didn’t let her date kiss her that night. She didn’t want him to smudge her lipstick.

The only other drabble I've ever written that is exactly 100 words. I rarely, rarely write anything LoTRs based (mainly because it's huge and massive and I don't feel I could ever do it any justice) but I've written a couple of pieces for [livejournal.com profile] lennaofmidearth. I stuck them up on my alternate FFN account, and then just left them. But I was thinking about them earlier, and finally decided to share them with you.

Title: The Storm
Summary: Sam's loyalty to Frodo.

Sam has never liked storms. Ever since childhood they have frightened him and kept him shut safely in his home. But there is something Sam feels stronger then the fear of the storm, stronger then anything else he has ever felt.

Mr. Frodo is alone, and the storm is bad. The wind is howling and the rain is beating down upon the ground as though it wants to wash it away. Sam is frightened, but not for himself. He is frightened for Frodo, all alone in Bag End, with no protection from the storm.

Trembling, Sam puts on his coat.

This would be the other piece I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] lennaofmidearth.

As I mentioned before, LoTR fan fiction makes me nervous. I'm morbidly afraid of screwing something up, because I just don't know the canon as well as I know HP canon. Otherwise my poor Flist would be flooded with my attempts at Faramir/Eomar slash. (Go me, I like the one pairing that just doesn't exist at all. Recs are welcome. I found one fic centering on the pairing and it sucked, horribly.)

But anyway, back to the story of my forrays into Sam/Frodo. Apparently at one point there was a small dry spell of fluffy Sam/Frodo slash. [livejournal.com profile] lennaofmidearth was bemoaning this fact, so I wrote her a fic. I've never wandered back to LotR fan fiction since. I think it's safe to say that I'm far more suited to HP.

Title: When the Mind Wanders

There was a huge warning for this on FFN, but I figure you people don't need one.

Summary: Sam's been doing a lot of thinking. The sorts of thoughts a hobbit ought not to have. And when he thinks Mr. Frodo suspects....

Rating: PG for fluffy kisses

Yeah....I'm so putting off working on 'Eternity'. *Prods Sirius gently*
