And for once I'm talking about my original stuff.
This came up in conversation with
mikazuki not too long ago, and I've been thinking about it ever since. The majority of my writing draws heavily on Biblical mythology. Looking over my short stories - a scant handful of which are actually finished - all but one of them is steeped in Biblical symbolism and mythology. This wasn't something I'd intended, either. I'm interested in the Catholic mythos, but I never made any conscious effort to include it in any of my works except for one - which takes place in the future when the Catholic church has taken over and America is ruled by a theocracy.
I think one of the reasons I like to work with Biblical mythology is because there's so much, and so much that hasn't been done over and over and over again. Greek, Roman and Egyptian mythology have been picked clean. Even Celtic mythology has been riffled through and drawn upon by hundreds of writers. Obviously so has biblical mythology, but it doesn't seem like it has been quite to the extent of the others. At least not in main stream entertainment. Which is perfectly understandable, all things considered. Which leaves me at a place where I'm torn. Will Biblical mythology help or hinder my chances at being published? The story I'm trying to sell now is the only one that doesn't fall into this category.
I've also noticed a pattern in my writing. My stories have the same sort of theme - god/mythical creature/angel/demon living as a human for whatever purposes - either by choice or by force. I need to break out of that.
And most of that is just me rambling and thinking out loud, so to speak. And to kick me in the butt to finish the piece I'm currently working on, entitled 'Leviathan'. Once it's done I intend to try something different, probably with vampires.

As to my fanfiction, thank you all for the requests you gave me yesterday! I can do all but one of them, and that's only because I'm not familiar with the manga. :( But the rest will be done, and those of you who requested more than one will get them all done. Even if you gave me a crack idea. ;) As the ScarxRiza fic proved, I'll try anything. :D
