What Time Is It?

Holy shit I overslept this morning! I usually wake up at 8 - 8:30 every morning. This morning I woke up and it was already after ten. I am fuzzy and fuggy and generally having a hard time waking up, which means I really did oversleep and got way more than I needed. I was in bed early last night, too, around ten thirty.

It's almost time for lunch, and I haven't even had breakfast. This does not speak much of my productivity for today.

I shall endeavor to rouse myself to some state of coherency before tackling anything large.

Realistic Sex

So zinjadu and I were talking about the portrayal of smut and characters in smutty situations. And how, in almost all the smut I read - be it het or slash - it's always pretty much perfect. It's good, it's hot, both characters orgasm, no one makes any major mistakes, the characters are usually beautiful and in great shape, and it's good. And I know that PWP is written to be hot, and that people tend to write about the characters they find physically appealing, and I'm not saying that's bad or don't write it or I don't like it. Don't get me wrong, the great sex with sexy people is great, and I read it, and I have nothing against it. Hell, I write it myself. I love it, it's awesome. But the other end of the spectrum, I think, can be just as great to read.

And I know there are people - a good number of them on my Flist - who write real people in real smut situations. And I think that's awesome, and I love them for it. But I think it'd be really great if there were more less-than-perfect smut stories. Because, well, people have bad sex. People make mistakes in sex. And bad sex can be funny. And bad sex doesn't ruin a relationship, and it isn't the end of the world, and it can be a great theme to work with. Especially in the HP fandom!

And one of the things I love about the characters in HP is that they all have physical flaws. Which I think lends to writing fics where less-than-pretty characters are still loved and in meaningful relationships because of their personality. There's a lot to be said for a person's personality making them sexy. And sexy comes in all shapes and sizes. Silly can be sexy. Snarky can be sexy. Eccentric can be sexy. Prissy can be sexy. A lot of what some people deem as 'negative' traits can be damn sexy - and sexy, as far as I'm concerned, isn't about dressing to show off your body or being seductive.

Anyway, I think it'd be fun to have a Bad Sex Challenge or something like that.
