I am again plundering my old movies, searching for things to watch. Last night, I stumbled upon Hard Core Logo.

Now, I've watched the movie only twice before in the six or so years I've owned it. A very nice friend copied it and sent it to me (along with some other films) and I watched it eagerly the first time. And I admit, I was blown away. I could tell you some stories about that movie that I don't think you want to hear.

I watched it a second time with a friend, who I don't think got the movie at all. I kept having to explain things. I hate having to explain a movie.

Anyway, I thought the tape was long lost. I was delighted when I came across it, and immediately popped it in to watch.

It was everything I remembered it to be. It was raw, it was gritty, it was fast paced and it was a beautifully woven story. And I think, upon this watching, that my favorite character is not Joe Dick, but rather John Oxenburger. I don't want to say I saw myself in him, but I felt a sort of kinship, I think. That search for self, that defining oneself by one's personal relatiohships, that fear of loss of self.

And I fucking love the music. I did lose my HCL soundtrack, which saddens me greatly. Blue Tattoo is an awesome song.

And of course, the slashiness. The movie slashes itself, literally if one wants to take John's offhand comment about Joe and Billy seriously. Which I do, because honestly it makes sense considering they way the act and react with one another.

Anyway, it's safe to say that this movie is one of my favorites. I have got to get it on DVD sometime.
