Summary: Al found himself at a loss as how to describe Martel, but not for lack of vocabulary...
If Al had been asked to describe her, he would have found himself at a loss for words. Not out of a difficulty to find them or a lack of vocabulary, but out of that strange tongue-tied-ness that befalls young men of a certain age in relation to women. Or rather, more specifically, women that they found themselves fancying.
If absolutely pressed, Alphonse would have found words like ‘harsh’ and ‘tempered’ and ’blunt’ on the tip of his metaphorical tongue. He would have gone on to explain that she had a certain rough edge to her, like a blade that had been used to the point where the steel began to notch. Weathered was another word that would have come to mind, referring to both mind and spirit. She was a knife that had been used and used and used, and the blood and hardship from long ago battles clung to her even still. There was strength within her, but it had been battered and bruised and honed like so much steel, and there were cracks.
There was something hovering on the border of broken about her, and in his deepest and most secret dreams, Al thought it was beautiful.

Thank you! It's not really a pairing I like all that much (I pretty much never pair Ed and Al up with anyone but each other unless it's a gift/challenge) but it was neat to write something different! I might. :D
