Closing Act - Final 100_women Fic

This is it. My last [livejournal.com profile] 100_women fic. And the fact that it's my last weighed heavily on the theme of it. I couldn't pick a single woman for it, and so this spans 8, though one is absent in the fic itself. Anyway, yes. I'm done. There's no shiny completion banner, but I have the satisfaction of writing 100 fics about the wonderful women of FMA.

Title: Closing Act
Author: [livejournal.com profile] theladyfeylene
Fandom: FMA
Character: Various
Prompt: 071, air
Pairing: Various
Spoilers: Full series
Summary: All over Amestris and beyond, they could feel it. Something had happened.

There was something in the air. All over Amestris and beyond, it could be felt.

The wrench in Winry’s hand slipped, and she paused a moment as it clattered to the floor. The breeze in through the open window had a strange feel to it, something she couldn’t place her finger on. She frowned, feeling suddenly settled despite her worry the past few weeks. Across the room, Sheska looked up from her book as the words blurred on the pages. The wind in through the window ruffled the pages and she met Winry’s eyes. Whatever it was, they both felt it.

In Central, Riza sat beside a hospital bed, her features a smooth mask. She held Roy Mustang’s limp hand in her own, the only sign of her internal struggle. There was still blood on her clothes. Through the open window, a gentle wind entered the room and she looked up, her eyes focusing on something she couldn’t see. Roy’s hand twitched in hers, and she clasped it firmly. A strange sense of calm came over her, and she smiled down at the injured colonel.

In Dublith, Izumi Curtis set aside her knife. The herbs she was cutting were stirred by the wind, and she moved to close the open window. But something stopped her. Her eyes were drawn to the forest, and she stood a long while watching the dark trees. Smiling softly, she returned to fixing dinner.

Somewhere far away, a gypsy woman watched the fire. The flames leapt up, caught by a sudden wind, and memories moved across her mind like a moving picture show. She recoiled from the fire, and with a shaking hand touched her chest. A strange sense of peace settled over her, and she leaned her head against the broad shouldered and scowling man beside her.

In the streets of Central, Rose stopped to catch her breath. She held the body of Alphonse Elric in her arms, and a sudden wind caught her dress and cooled her skin. She looked behind her at the ruined church, longing and regret welling up in her before bursting and settling into a sense of calm. Sighing, she shifted Alphonse in her arms and continued on.

In Risembool, where no eyes could see, a wind down from the mountains caught the last of the fall flowers, gathering them up and dropping them across the grave of Trisha Elric. They came to rest in a circle, as though placed there by loving hands.

It was over.

PS: Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] burningvigor, who helped me massively with these last few prompts.

What a nice way to end it. :D GOOD JOB, DUDE. You did it! I have no clue if I could ever manage to write that many fics. XD And you didn't have to thank me, silly. :P

Thank you! I thought it nice and fitting! YAY! Thank you! I... don't know how I did it. And yes I did, because otherwise I'd still be staring at those damn four prompts going 'wtf do I do?!?!'

[identity profile] burningvigor.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It was! It tied it up very well. And yeah, you're nuts. That's the only explanation for it. XD And fine, fair enough. I'm just glad I could get you to the end!

I am completely nuts. For many reasons, but this is very ample proof!

Congrats hun. *hugs* It's amazing you could get all those done. And I think that's a fitting end to it. You need a break! Then maybe something new? ;)

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yay doneness! It is over! Ended! And yes, I am taking a break. Then going back to my FFVI fics! My Setzer muse has been very patient with me, but wants to come back out and play.

Wow! First of all, congratulations! ^________^ This is a huge accomplishment, and you did it so well! Every single challenge piece was well thought-out and beautiful, and this last one was absolutely shiver-inducing! I hope you know that I plan on reading each and every one of your challenge stories as I have time! I'm sure I've missed a few, and I need to catch up! <3

Thank you! It was quite an experience! I'm so glad you enjoyed. I thought this was a very good way to wrap things up, and I couldn't think of one single woman who deserved the honor. So I gave it to them all!

My table is here (http://theladyfeylene.livejournal.com/648669.html#cutid2).

Fey, my dear...

You win! ^____^ And I must agree, this ficlet was a perfect way to end the challenge. The imagery and feelings were spectacular, and the sweet, yet sad note it ended on hit home. Absolutely amazing job with all of these, sweetie and a huge congratulations I extend to you! Way to go! *hugs!*

Yeah! It's finished and every last one is a gem! That last one is so bittersweet it made me feel all fuzzy and squeeful inside... (Is "squeeful" a word? Obviously it's one now.)
