The First of Many....
Yeah, totally expect a flood of fics today. I will finish today!
Title: Only Human
Author:
theladyfeylene
Fandom: FMA
Character: Dante
Prompt: 004, insides
Pairing: N/A
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 418
Spoilers: Full series
Summary: Dante can't understand why a homunculus would wish to be human.
“Oh that foolish thing!” Dante laughed, cruel and calculating. “A handful of shattered memories come bobbing to the surface and she begins to get romantic!” She turned her eyes to the form of Lust, pinned to the wall like a butterfly in a collection.
“And over the scarred man. How very quaint.” And ridiculous. Was Lust truly so blinded by a few flashes of some dead woman’s life? Apparently so. She’d grown weak. And she had defied orders, blatantly and flagrantly and she could not go unpunished.
“Tell me, Lust, was he worth it?”
Lust remained silent, her head twisted to the side. She had to be in pain. One blade was embedded through her oroborus.
“Well?” Dante folded her arms. “Did you find what you wanted in him?”
Dante knew the answer was no, but she taunted Lust with it anyway. Outside, Lust may have looked like the woman Scar had loved, which Dante imagined the homunculus used to her advantage. But inside she was as cold and empty as a porcelain doll - and the scarred man wouldn't have been fooled. But Lust had tried. She had gone cavorting off by herself, trying to grab that human life that she wanted so badly!
That was the problem with some of them - they were empty jugs that wanted filling. They weren’t content with power and near-immortality! They wanted to be human! Dante couldn’t begin to understand it. They wanted to give up so much in exchange for something as foolish and intangible as a soul. It was depressing, in a way. They tried to be human, in little ways. And the longer it went on, the more they wanted humanity and the more they strived for it.
“I‘m waiting for an answer, Lust.” She prodded Lust once more, standing below the crucified woman. She wanted to put her in her place. “Did he give you what you wanted badly enough to defy me in chasing?”
Lust turned her head then, eyes narrowed and lips twisted in a pained grimace. Dante half-expected the woman to spit at her. They were so human-like.
“Yes,” Lust snarled in response, smooth features contorted in a mask of rage and regret. “He did.”
Dante only laughed again, unbelieving. Let Lust lie to make herself feel better. It was, after all, a very human thing to do.
