Summary: Greed didn't believe in anyone being alone.
“What the hell are you doing hanging around back here for?”
Greed lounged in the doorway, one arm up over his head. It was night now, and the drink was flowing and the women were loose and all in all a good time was being had by all. Even dog-boy looked like he was enjoying himself, as far as Greed could tell. He wasn’t muttering and whining, at least.
But not Martel. She was back here, crouched down with a book or something like that. Where was the fun in that? But that was Martel. She wasn’t much of a party girl. Greed liked that in her, but damn did it get boring after a while.
“Reading,” was all Martel said, shrugging and not looking up. Greed rolled his eyes.
“I can see that.” Greed crossed his legs. “Come on out, I’ll buy you a drink.”
“Buy?” Martel looked up now, her eyebrows raised.
“Okay, I’ll get you a drink.” Geeze, why did she have to be such a spoil sport?
“Don’t want a drink.”
Damn it all! Greed threw up his hands. Sometimes he thought that being locked up in that lab had done something to Martel’s brain. No drinking, no gambling, no smoking, no sex…. What kind of a life was that? Where was the fun?
“Alright, no drink.” Greed wasn’t an unreasonable man, after all. He could compromise. “How about dinner. You hungry?”
“Already ate.”
“Well don’t you have an answer for everything.” Greed moved across the room with lightning quickness, his boots hardly making a sound on the floor. He snatched the book out of Martel’s hands and tossed it across the room.
“Hey! What was that for?”
“To get your attention.”
Martel was on her feet, scowling. She had a good scowl. Made her look damn cute, too. Well, drink and food were out. Greed wasn’t about to suggest smoking or gambling…
“I’ll come out later,” Martel finally said, shaking her head as her scowl melted into something like a smile.
“Or….” Greed said, taking a few steps back and kicking the door closed behind him, “I can stay in here.”
Martel laughed. Greed let her, folding his arms and letting his sunglasses slide down his nose. She was cute when she laughed, too.
“Stay in here, huh?” The tone of her voice was teasing and held a note of good natured disbelief. Greed shrugged. “I was wondering when you’d pull this.”
“Pull what?” Greed’s smile was pure innocence, and then he laughed. It wasn’t like he ever tried to hide his motives, after all.
“What can I say, you’re a good looking woman.“ Greed shrugged. “Besides, if you’re gonna hide away in here, what kind of guy would I be to let you do it alone?”
“I’m not hiding.” Martel’s demeanor changed. In a moment, her stance went from relaxed to defensive. Clearly Greed had struck a nerve.
“Hey, take it easy. Okay fine, so you’re holed away in here, and I’m not gonna let you do it by yourself. It’s not healthy being alone all the time. I’ve heard it can drive a person crazy.” He held up his hands, defensive in the face of her defensiveness.
“You’d know,” Martel mumbled. Greed sighed. Of all his chimeras, she was the one he understood the least. There was just something about her….
“Come on, I’ll keep you company.” He sat down and his tone was even and for a moment he wasn’t playing games as he always did. Martel watched him closely, as though thinking, and then nodded.
“Okay,” she finally said. She moved to sit down across from Greed, but he shook his head and grabbed her wrist.
“Uh-uh. What, you think we’re just gonna sit here and talk?” He pulled her into his lap, and she didn’t protest too much. She squirmed a bit, but finally settled in with a small, frustrated huff.
“There we go,” Greed said, looping his arms casually around her in an embrace. No woman could resist him, when he put his mind to seducing them. Even his anti-social little snake. But there’d been a grain of truth to what he’d said. It wasn’t right to be all alone all the time. It wasn’t natural. The idea of being alone was one of the few that got under Greed’s skin and made him uneasy. He’d been alone far too long. They all had! Locked up in that place like animals and… and tools that were broken! And all because some humans liked to play god.
But he knew that Martel didn’t want to hear any of that and would just get defensive with him again.
“So are you going to do anything, or are we just going to sit here?”
“Eh?” Greed shook his head. “Sorry, was thinking.” He hugged her close and nuzzled her neck, his lips tracing the line of red tattoo on her skin. She leaned back into him, not speaking. Her hands twined around his, fingers hooking into fingers.
“So you don’t want me to be alone, huh?” she said, suddenly, as she tilted her head to bare more of her neck to him. He took advantage of it, tracing teeth and tongue along her throat.
“Nope,” Greed said, nibbling gently at the curve of her shoulder. She had good shoulders. She wasn’t soft and sleek like the women Greed was used to. She was hard and lean and scarred. There was history in her skin.
“You won’t leave, then?”
Greed paused, his head resting on Martel’s shoulder. It was a difficult question to answer, and he kissed her neck once before answering.
“Sweetheart, not if I can help it.”
Martel made a little noise that could have been a laugh and could have been a sigh. She turned her head, looking down at Greed.
“That’s the best you can do, huh?”
“It’s the best anybody can do, I think.”
“Yeah. I guess it is.” Martel smiled and kissed him, and then there was no more talking. But neither one of them were alone.

You write Greed so well, and Martel too, and just Greed/Martel in general. (Maybe see more of that pairing from you? *puppy dog eyes* I mean, if you want, that is. ^^;)
This is just...perfectly in character, perfect romance.
Loveable, caring Greed is my one and only thing. :D

Thank you! I've never written Martel before, other than that one little Lust/Martel ficlet. I'm so glad you enjoyed! And I may indeed write more!
I like that side of Greed, too.

I just love the character of Martel and it's terribly frustrating to never see her written, but you did an excellent job! Greed seemed perfectly in character also, and I could imagine him saying these things to Martel clearly!
I particularly liked the line 'There was history in her skin'. Very simple, and yet, it speaks volumes! <3
And wow, you did write a lot! I so need to catch up with all this!

She's relatively new for me to write. I've only written her once before, but she is an awesome character. I'm so glad you enjoyed, and thank you so much for the feedback!
I'm trying to finish 100_women by the end of the week!

By the way, I like your new layout. Or is it old(er)? Gah. >_>

It is new! Thank you! It's from a Scar/Lust doujinshi. :D

Yes *eyes dart shiftily from side to side* I've been stalking your fanfics for awhile, but have never bothered to comment. You do good work, girl.
