Books!

So I've been doing a lot of reading lately. I'm trying to really get a good number of books under my belt this month. So far I've read:

Middlesex
Doc
A Love to Die For
and I'm halfway through Another Roadside Attraction

There's really no rhyme or reason to the books I read. I'll read almost anything, when you get right down to it. I've got plenty of books to go, also, not even counting the next Harry Potter book. [livejournal.com profile] lennaofmidearth and I are looking at the midnight release party for it, and we've pre-ordered our copy. I'll probably fall off the face of the net that weekend while I read it.

So.... what's the best book you've read lately?

Well, I don't get to consentrate as much as I wish so my reading's going slowly. I've read the two last Harry Potter books to get ready for the 6th! I'm really excited about that.

But my favourite book so far this year (that I haven't previously read) might be 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen, but I also enjoyed 'The Wee Free Men' by Terry Pratchett very much.

Oooh. Wee Free Men! That was a very good one. I love Pratchett, and everything that man does.

Which Middlesex, may I ask, because I think there's two running around lately and I've only been interested in one. What did you think of the one you read? :)

I have been physically unable to read a book lately, I am on pins and needles for HBP. Even Gravitation 12 is sitting on my desk unread. Wah!

love, lore

The Middlsex I read is about the second generation Greek-American hermaphrodite. :D And I really enjoyed it. There were some squicky parts (heavy incest themes) and it was on the depressing side, but it was beautifuly done.

I'm not even that excited about it, really.

You're still sick? Whatever you've got, you gave to me. I so was not up to coming in to work, but I've been doing my best to fight it off. Hence me sitting here not working.

Hope you feel better. See you when I get home.

Yeah, I'm still sick. I woke up with my stomach roiling horribly this morning. And my sinuses were bothering me again :/

Same to you!

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. Just finished it last night, then got right online and looked up stuff about Anne Boleyn for about an hour. Kind of weird.. I guess it sucked me in. And it did, because I was reading 50 - 100 pages a day. I realized how little I really knew about her..

But I have a love of English history that is very large, maybe that's why I was obsessed with it. XD

hahaha

I loved Tom Robbins' Another Roadside Attraction! I call it the Hot Dog Stand at the End of the World Book. I've also read Still Life with Woodpecker... but it wasn't as good as ARA.

My favorite author is Annie Dillard. Pilgrim At Tinker Creek is my all time favorite book.

Also... Robert Persig is a good author. I've read Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila.

I discovered Tom Robbins way back in High School, when my senior year Humanities teacher lent me 'Skinny Legs and All'. I loved that book. I grabbed Another Roadside Attraction, Cowgirls Get the Blues and Still Life with Woodpecker at a used book store a while ago.

I've heard some good things about Annie Dillard.

I'm still working on the first book in the Otherland series. It's good, but very, very long, like all of Tad Williams' other books.
