Prompt: Snowflakes
Summary: There is a connection between them, something deeper than and beyond the need for speech...
There was a certain scent to the air that came with snow. A crisp, cold, sharp scent. There was nothing else quite like it. Morinozuka Takashi stood on the steps of his family home, eyes panning slowly across the expanse of white and pale blue that covered the property. It really was beautiful. Everything looked so different when the snow came, covering the familiar geographical features of the land. It was smooth and graceful and almost unnatural in its symmetry. He had only a moment to stand and watch the winter scenery - the snowflakes falling softly to the ground, the gentle movement of bare trees in the light wind, the glitter of ice - before the peaceful moment was broken apart.
“Mori-kun! It’s snowing! It‘s snowing!”
A small, purple figure bolted past Mori and vanished immediately into a snowdrift. All Mori could see was the top of Hunny’s snowsuit and a small shock of blond hair. The snow was apparently too deep for the other boy, and he struggled once he realized he’d be able to go no further. Small arms flailed and Hunny wailed, throwing clumps of snow this way and that.
“Ah! It’s too deep! Mori-kun, too deep! Too deep!”
Mori watched as two snow-suit encased arms flailed and flapped in a desperate attempt to dislodge snow. He smiled to himself and took a few steps downward, the cold of the snow threatening to seep through his boots and pants. It was alright, though. Mori didn’t mind the cold. He didn’t mind much.
He didn’t bother to say anything, simply scooped Hunny up and set the smaller boy on his shoulders, ignoring the melting snow that trickled down to his bare neck. The snow was no longer unspoiled - the crater that Hunny’s brief excursion left was gaping and deep.
But that was alright. Mori began striding across the snow, long legs cutting easily through depth that Hunny couldn’t possibly manage to travel through. Across the land right in front of the house and off towards the woods, Mori walked, Hunny wrapped around his neck. Neither one of them spoke. Hunny leaned forward, resting against the top of Mori’s head, small gloved hands playing idly with Mori’s short hair.
The snowfall seemed lighter in the woods, the branches of trees catching flakes before they hit the ground. It was quieter here, too. Winter in the woods was always unnaturally quiet. The only noises were Mori himself and the small, contented noises Hunny let out now and again. It was nice. It was like they were the only two people in the world. Everyone and everything melted away in the quiet white of the woods.
Once they had gone what Mori deemed was far enough, he stopped and lifted Hunny up off of his shoulders. His neck was wet and cold from melted snow, and it was trickling down his back now. It was like freezing still, clinging his shirt to his back. He made no sound or motion due to it, however.
“Eh…?”
Hunny began to protest, but Mori set him on a relatively low lying branch before swinging up to join him. The forest stretched out around them, trees coated in heavy white. There was no need for sound in this place. There was nothing but them and the whiteness. It was their own silent, monochromatic world.
Hunny pulled off his gloves and stretched out his hands, wide eyes turned upwards. His cheeks were pink with cold. Mori only watched, not speaking. They never needed to speak. It had been that way as long as Mori could remember. Words weren’t needed, they simply knew what the other would say. They communicated in ways deeper than speech, more meaningful.
“Here!” Hunny stretched out his hand, an already melting snowflake against his skin. His cheeks were so bright and pink, pressed right beneath his eyes by the wide grin that stretched his lips. Mori returned the smile with a small one of his own and took Hunny’s hand. He lowered his head and pressed his lips to the damp place where the snowflake was melting, tasting the sharp cold and the wet and the faint cherry-scented skin of Hunny’s palm. It was sweet beneath the sharp cold. He kept his lips there, warming the soft skin of the smaller boy’s hand. His eyes were closed, blotting out everything but Hunny’s skin under his lips.
“It’s the first one I caught!” Hunny announced, proudly. Mori slowly licked away the remains of the snowflake and looked up to meet Hunny’s eyes, still smiling faintly. He only ever smiled faintly.
“Thanks.”
Hunny shifted and leaned against Mori, snuggling up close as they sat on the tree branch and watched the snow fall, hands clasped tightly in Mori’s to keep warm.
They didn’t need to speak, but sometimes it was nice, just the same.

I really love the descriptions of the snowy landscape and the silence too ^_^
And I laughed when Hunny went into the snow. Mwahah.
Beautiful characterisation of them both ^_^

This was absolute sweetness. Hunny disturbs Mori's peace and he doesn't mind, in fact he rather likes it. ^-^ Moe!
