Fic Notes

A brief summary of the Egyptian Mythos I pulled from for my fic 'All My Kingdoms, Turned To Sand'.

Anubis is the Egyptian God of the Dead at the time in which this fic takes place. He's a jackal headed god, who guides souls to the underworld and presides over the afterlife. When a soul first enters the underworld, their heart is weighed against a feather from the Goddess Maat. If the heart is lighter than the feather, the deceased has lived a good life and is rewarded and goes to paradise. If the heart is heavier, the heart is devoured by the crocodile headed creature Ammit and the soul is condemned to eternal damnation.

The city of Menouthis did indeed exist, and was swallowed by the Nile river. No bodies or skeletons were found in the ruins, and it was believed that some great misfortune had already befell the people of the city before it sank completely.

Abydos was one of the major cities in Egypt at the time, and the foundation of the Cult of Osiris.

Oh. My. God! Egypt! Egyptology! God, yes! I love it so much! I need to get a book about it. I just read The Mummy (Not the movie!) by Ann Rice. It was so cool, I recomend it if you like that type of stuff! *dances*
