Anizona Con - Friday

First off, a quick question because I'm a moron: how do you hang up wall scrolls?

Second: I'm doing a series of updates, as the weekend was jam packed with things happening and one single update would kill both me and you.

So Friday morning was spent packing. What, you thought I'd actually do it the night before like I kept saying I had to? It didn't help that I overslept. I ran around like a chicken with its head cut off, which isn't unusual. And of course, there were many instances of doing the 'What Am I Forgetting?' dance. Because I always forget something. We didn't discover until much later what it was I had forgotten.

Lenna came home from work, and there was further packing and 'What Am I Forgetting' dancing and last minute decisions on what to bring. But eventually all clothes, make-up, toiletries and other various things were packed and we were ready to go. We piled into the truck and started off on our Big Convention Adventure.

First stop was the gas station for road supplies. Dr Pepper and candy bars, because you need something to keep you going. The ride down was an easy one, and we listened to the anime/video game music CD Cori had made me. Mood music, you see.

Of course, as I am cursed, despite having the simplest directions in the world, we missed our turn and had to play Which Exit Will Take Us Where We Want To Go?. It doesn't matter how easy it is to get someplace, if I'm in the car and the driver is going there for the first time, we will get lost/confused/overshoot our destination. Even if the place we're trying to get to is right next to the highway with big giant signs.

So we get into the parking lot, and clearly it is the right place. There are Death Gods everywhere. Big ones, little ones, ones with swords and ones without. And as we walked through the hotel to check in, the normal hotel citizens faded away into a crowd of gothic lolitas and Final Fantasy characters.

Check in went smoothly, and we found our room with little problem. Or should I say rooms, because we ended up with a suit with a living room and kitchen area plus seperate bedroom. Complete with fridge and microwave. We were conning in style this weekend. We looked over our programs and got a game plan before heading down to the dealer's room.

Much money was spent. We grabbed the second-to-last Roy movie plushie immediately, and I got a gorgeous movie wallscroll for 10 bucks. It's the picture of Ed in the gold oroborous with Al clapping to transmute in front of/below him. Still don't know quite how to hang it up, but I'm working on it. We made the rounds, weaving between Death Gods and Black Mages and the occasional alchemist. Then we retired to the outside patio for a drink, and I decided I would return to purchase myself an Ed plushie - to match Roy. While inside, I discovered something. Mystery boxes of FMA figures. And not just any figures. The bust figures. I let out a small noise of joy and snatched up the four of the things in one go, immediately shaking them and balancing them and listening to the noises they made. I said 'screw it' and just bought all four of them. Plus the two mystery plush key chain boxes. I returned to Lenna burdened down quite heavily!

After that, it was back to the room. We opened our mystery boxes, both pleased and delighted at out plushie keychains. Lenna got Roy, I got Ed. Then it was on to the busts! The first one I opened was Lust and Gluttony, which was awesome. In that go we also opened Envy and the dragon, and two Ed and Als. I was bound and determined to get as close to the whole set as possible, and to find Lenna the Roy and Riza one.

It was getting time to head back for dinner and the AMV competition. Halfway there, Lenna had to go get something from the room and I hung out on the patio outside the bar. There I was ogled by three teenaged boys until I was approached by a Cowboy Bebop cosplayer. Spike commented on the wind and asked if he could buy me a drink. I politely refused, but was flattered all the same. Then we headed to dinner, which was delicious, and settled in for the AMVs.

Holy crap, there were a ton of them. I voted for an awesome, awesome Bleach video in the first category (action). I was kind of horribly spoiled for some stuff, but it was such a kick-ass video that I didn't really mind. Voted for an Azumanga Dioh comedy video, a Final Fantasy Advent Children drama video (to the Battle of Evermore by Led Zepplin, gorgeous video) and the most adorable Miyazaki medly romance video. There were only two FMA vids, and they both were kind of not great. The romance one in particular.

We decided to check out the dance party that first night, but ended up not staying too long. Nothing exciting happened there. We returned to our room to turn in for the night, willing ourselves to get up early to get into our costumes and hit the Sonny Strait panel in the morning.

And that was day one. [livejournal.com profile] chaneystarr, remind me to tell you about my dreams last night. I think you'd get quite a kick out of them.
