So, I've been experimenting with icon making. I can make animated scene icons! Still trying to do the Scar and Lust one, but it's a hell of a lot harder since it's from about a dozen different caps, and also I will not post it for a while because it is massively spoilery.

And I know a good many of you are now going: 'Dude, Fey, I thought you didn't like the chick that's in that icon'. And no, I am not a very big fan of her, but she's nice to look at and I do think that is a pretty - if kind of random and perhaps not entirely appropriate - scene.

I have longer versions, but they were over 40 k. You can see them below the cut:

I really do like the second one, but it's 57k and there's no way to keep the quality and cut it down small enough. Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] crackalicious for the gif that allowed me to make this icon.

Nifty! Where did you learn to make animated icons? Was there a tutorial somewhere, or did you just teach yourself?

Thanks! I taught myself in Imageready. I took each screepcap in a short sequence, cropped them down to 100x100 pixels, layered them on top of each other and sequenced them in the right order in the animation window by clicking the 'new frame' button and then making the next layer in the sequence visible. For this icon, I did 10 frames, I believe. I timed each frame to .02 seconds.
