Fall Recipes!
Can you tell that Fey's bored yet? ;)
So the fall season is upon us, and that means fall goodies! As everyone knows, I love to bake in the fall and winter. Nothing's better on a cold, crisp day than baked goods fresh from the oven. Not to mention the warm smell of bread and pastries as they bake. And this year I've got an Apple Cranberry Pie recipe I've been dying to try out. I love cranberries, and it's a fairly simple recipe that doesn't take much time. If it comes out any good, I'll post it here. And apples are always a good fall treat. Apple Maple Crumble is especially yummy!
And of course, pumpkins. I love working with pumpkin flavor. Pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin tarts, and if I were any good at cheese cake, pumpkin spice cheese cake. Maybe I'll give it another try this year. :D I'm sure it won't be too much longer before I break out the beef stew, either. Despite the fact that I live in a desert area, it does get cold in the winter. And I love beef stew. And mashed potatoes! Garlic mashed potatoes slathered in thick, rich gravy....
I'm making myself hungry just writing about it!
So: what are your favorite fall recipes? Be it for desert, main course or appetizer, what's that special food you always look forward to when fall settles in?

Also, hmm, my grandma's biscuits:
2 cups flour
3 tbs butter
2 ts baking powder
1/3 ts salt
3/4 cups milk
Mix together, pour into pound and cut into rounds. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 C degrees.

The recipe I was thinking about making tonight (although I may leave it until I feel a bit better): It's not so much a recipe, really, but phyllo pockets, folded around mushrooms/chicken/celery/carrots/whatever other veggies or spices I have on hand. I sometimes use the recipes for pot pie filling, only with phyllo pastry instead of puff, because I prefer the flakiness. I love it, it keeps pretty well, and it's portable enough to take for work.

Oooh, phyllo pastry!

*willhave cranberries of the fresh sort v. soon*
And my favorite? Well, the hunting eason starts soon, and there are very few things I like better then "hirvikäristys" - kinda like venison roast. which, i can't make. NBut my mom can. Will badger a recipe from her and shhare :D

As for dessert, I think you know how I feel about pumpkin pie. Also, I crave candy corn around this time of year. XD

Oooh, candy corn! I love that stuff.

I don't know what they flavor that stuff with, but it's wonderful.

Sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. :D
Pear and Sultana tea bread
50g light muscovado or demerera sugar
25g rolled oats
30ml apple or pear juice or squash (I've even used orange and it works fine)
1 large or 2 small pears (I've also used 2-3 plums in this, though it takes longer to cook)
115g self-raising flour
115g sultanas
2 teaspoons mixed spice
1 egg
You need a 1lb loaf tin, lined with greaseproof paper (or whatever you do to make sure it doesn't stick). Preheat oven to gas mark 5 (190 degrees celsius)
mix the sugar, oats and juice together and leave to stand while you prepare the rest. Chop up the pears (or whatever) fairly finely (my cookbook suggests grating them, but I find this just leaves a hideous mess all over the kitchen). Then add the fruit and all the rest of the ingredients to the sugar-oats mixture, and mix it in thouroughly. Pour/scrape mixture into loaf tin, bake for 50 minutes, or until skewers start to come out clean. (It'll take over 1hr for a plum cake. Also, skewers needn't come out perfectly clean; it's very nice when slightly squishy in the middle). And you can eat it warm or cold. Yum.

The plum version is very squidgy inside, but very very lovely.

We'rethey're having it tonight. XDI've never tasted pumpinks and I've probably seen 3 authentic ones in the whole course of my life.

Pumpkins are only yummy in other things.
