Stupid Word

Can I just say that I really hate Microsoft Word Processor spellcheck sometimes? Ianthine is a word. It means vivid purple. It's from the Greek word ianthinos, a violet flower that was used to make purple dye. So maybe it's not a common word, but it is a word. I am sick and tired of having to add actual words to the damn thing's dictionary.

Fan fiction and other intensive fandom projects are on hold due to RL, if I haven't mentioned already. The next few weeks are going to be insanely busy for me. I will get to the April Showers winning drabbles afterward, I promise!

And now, some Tactics and then bed.

Microsoft Word sucks in so many different ways.

Mine kept putting "Smart Tags" on so I could remember addresses.

Except it was doing this whenever I typed "Oscar Wilde". *headdesk*

I really don't understand it half of the time. Stupid MSW.

It's really very annoying. Especially the grammar check. *glares at Word*

Yes... I hate it too sometimes. Especially when it autocorrect words you constantly mispell and because of that it isn't brought to your attention.

Ianthine... really? Cool!!! I love learning new words!

I disabled as many of the automatic spelling and grammar tags as I could. I tend to use complex sentences and was sick of being told by a damn computer program to shorten them. Ditto how to spell. And I hate, hate, hate the outlining function in Word.

I despise spell-checkers sometimes, too. What pisses me off more is GRAMMAR CHECK, though. >___>

I've turned mine off. I am Canadian. I use Canadian spelling to write my English projects. I use American spelling to type anything for other people or fics that are set in the U.S., and I use Brit spelling when I'm emailing Brits or writing Brit fic.

Pisses me off when I say "favour" and it says "Favor?" I have four open documents on my computer at the moment. One is in Canadian French, another's Brit fic - HP, a third is an Original Fic from the PoV of a Seattle resident, and the last is an essay. For English. In Canada.

Ack. Not to mention the essay is on Shakespearean literature...

And my friends are busy teaching me other languages, like Latin and Korean and Mandarin and Japanese and Spanish and Italian and German and Portuguese and Punjabi. Oh, and sign language, but that's easy (two of my friends are deaf and four of my classmates are; there are signers in most of my classes anyway). Greek, Dutch, Swedish, Gallic (whatever we can glean from texts), etc. Most of my friends are bilingual or trilingual. It's not unheard of for a kid to put "Konichiwa" at the beginning of a speech and "A bientot" at the end. Genkigenkigenki. Hee. I can write my name in Korean, and swear in German. So much fun.

And the teachers have forbidden us from signing during tests. I don't know why, signing is sort of hard to apply to an essay. They've finally caught on to some of our words, the swears and such. Now we have to go find new teachers and new languages to learn so we can mock them in them.
