Because You Know You Missed My Sewing Projects...

I found an easy tutorial for beret making a couple months ago, and finally got around to trying it out. I have this great tartan print fabric with scotty dogs in it that [livejournal.com profile] talia_speaks sent me, and I wanted to make a set with it. I'm doing a beret and a fashion waist cincher - no actual cinching capabilities! - that I can use on whatever skirt I feel like. I still need the right type of lace for it, so here we have the hat!

I found batteries! This is actually the third try. first we don't talk about. Second came out well, but.... you can see the problem here:

Too small for my head! I have a kind of giant head, so hats and I don't often get along as is. And I under-estimated when cutting the fabric. (Why yes, I did try and darken my gray with photoshop, leave me alone.)

If anyone with a small head would like it, you're welcome to it!

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with a little over half a yard of beautiful red and black asian patterned brocade.

I have nothing relevant to say, so here is a picture of a Fey with a pancake on her head.

Oh c'mon, you know someone was going to have to say it. XD

That's what that picture has been reminding me of! It was driving me nuts, THANK YOU! If I were slightly more egotistical, I'd make an icon or a macro.

Lulz, do it anyway.

I would right now, but work computer has no photoshop for icons. :(

I may do it with a better picture. You know, one with my hair brushed and stuff. I just snapped these to show off my hat. And my failure. :D

Oh! I love berets! My mom thought I was a weird little child because I always wore one. And yours is so cool! I love the pattern. I can't believe you made that yourself!

How small is it, really? Because that thing will probably fit my head. I always wear kids hats and gloves/mittens.

Berets are awesome! Thank you! I loved the fabric and I thought it would make an awesome beret!

If you wear kids hats and stuff, it should fit you. It fits my 13 year old niece, but she does not like berets.

AWWW it's CUTE! XD

You're welcome, Hughes.

I FORGOT WHICH LJ I WAS SIGNED IN WITH!

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
ITS OKAY, I'm just too lazy to switch *coughs*

Well I am glad you got some use out of that fabric, even though it doesn't fit. It still looks good! A red tartan pancake, w00t.

As far as the brocade goes, I think you want to make a little bag of some sort.

Oh and I found a crapload of black satin and another brocade that I am not going to use. If you want it, you can have it. Or I can make you something out of it. Like a skirt maybe? The black would be better for a skirt, but you can do what you want with the brocade.

A couple of people have expressed interest in the too small one, so it will definitely go to a good home! :D

Oh, a bag! That's a good idea!

Ohhh, that would be awesome! And a black satin skirt would be uber sexy!

very cool! Love the fabric...

where do you get your patterns from?? or do you just make it up as you go?

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I scour the net for free patterns, and look through the memories of various sewing and craft LJ communities. I've got a folder full of bookmarks!

You have very pretty eyes, hon. Oh, and the hat is awesome, too.

Thank you! It's a throwback about three generations - everyone else in my family has dark brown or black eyes. :D

THAT BERET IS CUTE!

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU!

If you would like one, let me know! I need the practice, and while I am out of scotty fabric, I have oodles of other fabrics!

[identity profile] nijawial.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
oooooh! Yes, please! I would love one!

well you having a big head only means you have a big brain :D and i love that combination of blue eyes and dark hair its almost glorious... urm the beret is lovely on its own i kinda have the same problem i find hats marked one size fits all and when it doesn't fit me i have to wonder if the manufacturers were thinking of my existence and such..(blah, blah, blah)

Hahaha, yes! Thank you, mystery commenter! Argh, hates are such a pain. I own one store-bought hat that I couldn't pass up. It's pink leopard print and came with a beautiful wrap. And it's one of those big fuzzy Russian ones with the ear flaps. :D

[identity profile] lovelies.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! I've got a giant head, too. My High School graduation cap would. not. fit.
