My Year In Fic
It's that time again! My Year In Fic! The best, the worst, all that crap. And please, feel free to add your own opinions. Because I am biased towards my own work.
Total stories written this year (1 January to present): An exact number? Somewhere around 250, I think. I don’t keep track. I had a list but once I hit 109 I stopped.
Favourites of the batch: Too many to choose from. But the ones that really stand out to me are: Leyna, Bare Grace Misery and The Truth Of Alchemy.
Best of the batch: Leyna. This is probably always going to be the fic I’m most proud of. Probably because despite the fact that it’s technically a pairing fic, it’s more about Lust and her struggle to adjust to a new culture and a new life. It’s one of the best character pieces I’ve ever done.
Most underappreciated by the universe: The Island of Kulshedra. Action adventure gen-fic just doesn’t get much readership. Who doesn’t love pulp fiction? Starring Hohenheim!
Most fun to write: Island of Kulshedra again. It’s been a long time since I had as much fun as I did writing that fic.
Sexiest fic: I have to pick just one? Uh… Dance In The Shadow Of Death, I think. That Maes/Gracia/Roy/Riza fic I did. Though I’ve been told that The Last Meal (Hohenheim/Riza) is very sexy as well.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic: Is anything wrong for me at this point? I think Bright Young Things Part II has to take this category, though.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Anything I ever wrote with Envy? Uh… yeah, there really weren’t any this year. Oh wait! My Ed/Riza fic! Reason Doesn’t Know. I began to be able to see consensual Ed het.
Hardest fic to do: Either Bright Young Things or Through A Glass fractured. TaGF actually has the distinction of being the only non-chaptered fic I’ve needed to get feedback on while writing it.
Biggest disappointment: I don’t really have any this year.
Biggest surprise: Nothing But The Blues. Extremely difficult pairing, new fandom, characters I’d never written before… but I was really, really proud of it and very happy with how it came out.
Most telling fic: I never understand this question. Telling about what? Me? My writing? My views? You tell me.
