1 Sentence Alpha Set

Work has been busy! But busy is good. :D

Things finally started slowing down around noon, so I did another sentence set to occupy myself. Number 5 gave me a hell of a time, and [livejournal.com profile] zinjadu, I think you will appreciate 38, as it's a small nod to the AU of Doom.

1. Comfort: All that remained was a smear of blood and the lingering sensation of sand-roughened skin beneath her hands - and of course the memories and dreams of a human life, but those were little comfort now.

2. Kiss: It wasn't his lips that she kissed first, inviting as they were; it was the X-shaped scar that gave him his name.

3. Soft: Dead and sinful things were supposed to be cold and hard, not warm and soft and so alive beneath his touch.

4. Pain: Lust had known pain of the flesh, but pain of the heart was something new and unbearable.

5. Potatoes: Lust toed at the debris of the abandoned building where the scarred man had been hiding, shushing Gluttony as he slobbered about inhaling the cast aside potato peels and other garbage - she didn't know what it was she was looking for, but she continued to look all the same.

6. Rain: It rained the night after he first confronted her in the alleyway in Lior, and Scar stood beneath it and turned his face upwards as though it would wash him clean of his sinful thoughts.

7. Chocolate: Lust scoffed at the silly romantic traditions of humans - what did a box of chocolates or a bouquet of flowers prove? - but secretly she longed for a gift other than scornful words and blood.

8. Happiness: Lust knew that what Scar said was true - killing him wouldn't make her happy; but the thing that would was something he wasn't willing to give her.

9. Telephone: Lust hardly paid attention to whatever it was Envy was saying to her; her eyes had been distracted by a glimpse of the scarred man - she told Envy the public telephone's connection was poor.

10. Ears: Even as the strange creature who bore the face of the woman he loved taunted him and threatened him, her voice was still music to Scar's ears.

11. Name: All she had wanted was to know his name, and he refused to grant her even so simple a request before he left forever.

12. Sensual: Sensuality, like cruelty, was simply part of her nature, the most prevalent part - yet it was the second he focused on, and not the first.

13. Death: Even knowing that this death was one she wouldn't return from, she couldn't be bothered by it - what did she have to live for now, anyway?

14. Sex: Lust had never seen sex as anything other than a useful tool to bind men to her - but with him, it was something different.

15. Touch: Scar knew that her skin would be cold to the touch, but it still surprised him.

16. Weakness: "You've become weak over this Ishbalan man," Pride told her, and Lust could only turn her head away and sneer - what did he know of weakness, anyway?

17. Tears: Scar felt the burn of shame as tears leaked from the corners of his eyes, the shame of exposing himself to her so; but the cold woman made no comment.

18. Speed: Lust understood that time was of the essence and there was no way to reach Edward Elric before his brother's life ended, yet she would rather see the boy die than the scarred man.

19. Wind: The desert wind burned, laced with sand and heat, but Scar turned his face into it rather than look at her - if he looked at her, he would be lost.

20. Freedom: Lust didn't care about freedom from her master or freedom from a life of sin - all she cared about was making him love her.

21. Life: Scar knew his life was nearly over anyway when he threw himself between Lust and the soldier's bullets - the empty act of protecting her was all that he could offer.

22. Jealousy: Lust bowed her head in respect as her Master entered the room, the girl from Lior behind her - but jealousy welled up inside of her, for the blank eyed girl had walked the streets on the arm of Scar.

23. Hands: Lust supposed in that way, she and her scarred man were the same - both of their hands were good for nothing but destruction.

24. Taste: When she leaned to kiss him, Scar turned away - a taste from her lips was poison.

25. Devotion: Lust honestly didn't care about either Fullmetal or his brother, but Scar had, and for that she would aide and protect them.

26. Forever: "Even if you both lived forever," Lust's Master said with a sneer, "he would never love you."

27. Blood: "Why do you haunt me this way?" Scar had demanded, and Lust had only shrugged and replied that it was in her blood.

28. Sickness: "Do you remember?" Scar asked softly, "when you were ill, and I sat by your bedside instead of him?"

29. Melody: It was a morbid melody, the one drifting out from the tent of some Ishbalan refugee, but Lust paused and listened to it all the same - for some reason, it made her think of Scar.

30. Star: In the desert, after he was gone, Lust sought the sky in vain for a falling star - if humans wished upon them, why couldn't she?

31. Home: The broken towers of Ishbal were nothing but rubble, but once the city in the desert had been home to both of them.

32. Confusion: The memories had confused Lust at first, and then terrified her - now they angered her, because it was Scar that she wanted to remember.

33. Fear: "Aren't you frightened of me?" Lust asked with a laugh; she was surprised when Scar shook his head 'no'.

34. Thunder: The roll of thunder spread across the desert night, bringing with it the promise of rain - Lust shivered, for the old stories said thunder heralded a hero's death.

35. Bonds: "You're the only thing left of my human life," Lust lied, "and I'm all that's left of yours."

36. Market: Scar fell in love with his brother's beloved when she smiled and asked if he would accompany her to the market - she said that she needed a strong young man with her in case of trouble.

37. Technology: Lust had never cared much for technology, but she cared less for sitting on the side of the dirt road as Scar cursed for hours over the dying engine of the German motorcar.

38. Gift: Lust could have asked for him, returned in penitence and asked her Master to return him to half-life - but Dante never gave gifts, and it would have been a weak substitute anyway.

39. Smile: Lust realized, as she watched Scar leave the broken room in Lior, that she had never seen him smile.

40. Innocence: He couldn't hate her - no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't bring himself to; she was innocent of any crime that angered him and nothing but a victim to his brother's madness.

41. Completion: Lust still wanted to be human, after he was gone, but she knew she'd never be truly complete.

42. Clouds: The nights that Scar saw her, it was always overcast - he began to look to the sky each evening, and the clear twilight taunted him.

43. Sky: The old men of the desert said that the course of each man's life was written in the sky - Scar didn't believe it; the sky was the realm of God and she had no place near anything holy.

44. Heaven: "There's no such thing as heaven on earth," Lust said with a shrug of her shoulder, "nothing on earth is good or pure - not even you, for all your claims of being blessed by your god."

45. Hell: "If my actions have doomed me to hell," Scar snarled through the pain of his wounds, "then at least I know we'll see one another again."

46. Sun: Lust stretched out across the dirty rooftop, ignoring Gluttony's whining behind her, and squinted against the light of the dropping sun in hopes of seeing Scar.

47. Moon: By the light of the moon, she looked like a ghost - Scar supposed, in a way, that was what she was.

48. Waves: The sand shifted and dipped in waves, and Lust watched it without seeing it - she was thinking of a man, and wondering if he tired while crossing the harsh terrain.

49. Hair: Lust's hair felt like silk, soft and thick in raven's wing black - it was easy for Scar to pretend that nothing had changed when he touched it, that she was still the woman he had first fallen in love with.

50. Supernova: Lust had expected something more - an explosion, a great cloud of fire, a supernova of light and sound - but Lior simply slipped away in a glow of red, and with it her chance at the human life she so desperately craved.

I had a whole bunch of things I wanted to post about, but I forget them all now.
