Fanfic100

I just wanted to give a little shout out to everyone on my Flist who's doing the [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 thing. I wish you all tons of luck, and I look forward to reading what comes of this. :D

ETA: No, LJ, my password is not easy to guess. It isn't a real word, it isn't a combination of real words, it is random and bizarre and if anyone actually did guess it from scratch, I would give them a cookie.

It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious isn't it? ;P

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha. Would that even fit in the password thingy?

[identity profile] jacyevans.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
No it wouldn't fit. Just the first thing that popped into my head :)

And yes, it is annoying. I just got one today, and I'm like ummm... no, not really that easy at all... hrumph.

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Supposedly, they're expanding the character limit to 60, actually.

I know. I read their guidelines, and I still think they're going overboard. Now we have to change our password to a random collection of letters and numbers, or we'll be locked out of the site features.

[identity profile] jacyevans.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
what. the eff. *grumbles and thinks of a new password*

[identity profile] cirakaite.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently, my password was based on a dictionary word that was reversed. I tried reversing it. No word I've ever recognised, since it was a RANDOM COLLECTION OF LETTERS.

Excuse the yelling. But their irritating "Your password is too easy to guess" reminders annoyed me to the point of snapping and changing it, and now I can't remember the new one.

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole thing is on crack. If my password had been, like, Peteriscool or something like that, I would concede that perhaps that is easy to guess. But it's a completely fake word! And not even like a Harry Potter word or something!

I'm not changing it. Because then everyone who has my password in case something happens to me would have to memorize a new password.

Seems they're planning to eventually force people to change their passwords (see here. Because adding "_" before or after your password makes it so much more secure! *snorts*

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Bugnuts. I still don't see how my password is 'bad' by their guidelines, other than not having a number in it. It's a random smooshing together of madeup words.

Same here - it makes absolutely no sense. And it's not like a number miraculously makes a password unguessable! I'm also pretty annoyed that they sprung this on us without posting about it on [livejournal.com profile] news first. At least then we'd have known to expect it.

[identity profile] wickedelf.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the LJ thing is pissing me off. My password isn't even a word, and no part of it is a dictionary word, so wtf?

I hate adding in numbers and symbols because it's yet another thing to remember. I notice in the thread above someone was like 'gee, is it that hard to remember to add a number in' ... well, when you end up with 10 zillion passwords to suit the requirements of each site that you have to sign up for... yeah. It's easier to remember 'on this kind of site, I use x password'.

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That pissed me off, too! I've been using the same password here for over to years. Yes, it's going to be difficult to remember it with numbers added to it.

My password is along the lines of something like 'smakkityphop'. It's complete gibberish! But apparently, adding a number at the beginning and end makes it all okay. WTF?

[identity profile] wickedelf.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly! I suppose if you went through with some program, it would eventually be able to guess the almost random letters and crack it... but why would someone want to for my little ole journal? It's not like I keep bank account info or hell, even my real name in private entries for people to get at.

And I have trouble believing hackers/crackers wouldn't just start adding "1" to the end of their guesses or programs since that's probably the most common number that's going to be used (2nd most common? the year?). Oh yeah, that'll get 'em.

[identity profile] ranchangrnl.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
What's this about passwords?

-scratches head-

THe best way to make passwords is to use 1337. Sp311ing5 in 1337 t3nd t0 m4k3 LJ H4pp3h!

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, LJ has said that any 1337 spellings are 'sucky passwords' and combinations that equal leet speek will be not allowed.

LJs cracking down and forcing people to change their passwords to suit very strict standards.

[identity profile] ranchangrnl.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Huh...guess I should wait for my email then. Though I've never had a problem with my LJ password. My yahoo is leet of a nonsense word, but my LJ is Schoolish.

Heh, now I'll get the email as I've given clues. :p

Hmm.... I bet it's going to demand that I change mine, too. Which I suppose I ought to, since I've had it since I started this journal, but... I don't like having to memorize new passwords, especially the complicated ones. Bleck.
