More Disneyland Tales

About half a year ago, I came into possession of the most amazing pocket watch known to man. Its cover is black on gold, with a gold skull and crossbones with red eyes. It is the ultimate pirate pocket watch - one of a kind, and discovered in a small thrift store in Seattle. I am rarely without my watch.

Neither my sister nor my niece have watches, and so we relied upon the Pirate Watch while in Disney. For easy access, it stayed in my pocket - wedged in tightly and hooked onto my belt loop so it wouldn't be lost. For two days we relied on my watch, bringing it out often to check the time. Were we going to be late for this show? Was the parade going to start soon? Did we have time for a snack?

Tuesday night we got in late, having stayed at the Magic Kingdom to catch the outdoors Fantasmic show. On returning to the hotel, the Child announces she is hungry. Lenna has me check the time - it is ten or so at night. They go to get food, I return to the room. I empty my pockets and the watch ends up on Lenna's bed. I am in pain and grumpy because the bathtub was dirty and I could not clean it for a bath. Lenna and the Child return, and Lenna tosses me watch onto my bed, reminding me to keep my things on my side of the room.

I take pills, we watch television, and go to bed. The next morning we are in a hurry, getting ready for a full day at the Magic Kingdom. We're halfway there when I realize I have forgotten my watch. Well, we can't go back for it now.

It is a long and good day, and we return to the hotel around six or seven. We decide to have dinner at the hotel, and I search my bedside table for my watch. No watch. I look in the bed. No watch. My suitcase. No watch. Now I drag Lenna and the Child into it. We search the room, but the watch does not turn up. I am disheartened. I know I had it in the room last night! We go to dinner and return, and still no watch. Could it have been snagged on a maid cart? Gone out with the trash? I am devastated. The next day we go to California Adventure park, and it is a good day. We return and there is still no sign of my watch.

The next morning is the morning we leave. I have bucked myself up as best I can - it's only a watch, and I lost a good number of valuable and meaningful items before. We pack and there is still no sign of it, I have to face the facts. It's gone.

Lenna goes to get the car while I go with the Child to get our bags out of holding. We'd left them there while we had breakfast. The bellhop chats with me a bit, and then goes in the back. He is gone for a while, and I am getting nervous. He returns with our cart, and he smiles at me and opens his hand. "I found this on the floor of the baggage room, next to your bags. Is it yours?"

He's holding my watch.

Clearly, the watch decided to go on a little adventure without you. ;)

Either that or Disney has House Elves. If anybody did, I'd put bets on them...

Walt Disney, Albus Dumbledore... where's the difference, really? ;)

Also, I seem to have started a Tinkerbell collection. On top of my Tink apron and bag, I have a Tink mug, and a Tink t-shirt. And everyone kept asking me what Disney shop I'd gotten my bag in. :D

Clearly, your watch has been made out of one of those Aztec coins from Pirates of the Caribbean. :)

A good thing I live in the desert, then, else I would be afraid that ghostly pirates would be coming for me... ;)
