Fifteen Minute Ficlet
I had to rewrite this, which wasn't fun, but I finally got around to it. Written for
15minuteficlets, word behind the cut.
Title: Finale
Pairng: N/A
Summary: Gen ficlet centering around Peter, Sirius and Remus on their last day at Hogwarts.
Word: Juvenile
“Wormtail, knock it off.”
Sirius never had any patience for Peter. Not when they were eleven, not when they were fourteen, and not now that they were on the verge of leaving school for good. Peter was practically tingling, rocking back on forth on his bed with uncontained glee. Apparently Sirius didn’t like that. Peter stopped, but only because he didn’t want to be yelled at further. Sirius could be such a drag sometimes!
“Merlin, you’d think you were on drugs or something.”
Apparently Sirius wasn’t going to knock it off. Peter ignored him and hopped off his bed, moving the window. After school ended, things were going to be wonderful. They were all going to get jobs, and meet beautiful women (or men) and there would be a party at Moony and Padfoot’s flat every weekend. They’d all talked about it for years!
And Sirius wondered why Peter was so excited? It was going to be amazing. Brilliant. Perfect.
“He’s just excited, Sirius.”
Moony always stood up for Peter. Especially against Sirius, and Sirius always listened to Moony. Peter was bouncing again, on the balls of his feet, without even realizing it. Moony smiled at him, and he smiled back. He didn’t always understand what Moony saw in Sirius. They were too different, too opposite. And in his secret heart of hearts, he was always convinced that Moony was too nice to be with Padfoot.
“Yeah, well, we all are. It doesn’t mean he has to freak out like that. We‘re adults, you know.”
Moony laughed, and Peter felt his lips curl up in a smile. He liked the way that Moony laughed.
“Padfoot, I think I may have to hit you. Honestly. You’re the last one of us to talk about being adults.”
Sirius didn’t answer, but Peter gave Moony another smile. Sirius was the biggest kid of them all, as far as he was concerned. Sirius with his pranks and his boasting and his trouble making. He had no right to talk.
“Come on. We should get going.” Moony was taking charge. He did that, sometimes, but not like Sirius or Prongs. Prongs was busy with that pretty Evans girl he‘d been dating. They‘d meet with him later, and there was the promise of butterbeer and maybe more. Peter turned, for a moment framed in the dimming light that streamed in through the window. It was the last time he would stand in this dorm, laughing with his friends. It was the last time he would look out over the grounds of Hogwarts from his bedroom window, and the last time he would ever wear Hogwarts robes.
Quickly, furiously, he wiped his fist over his eyes before Sirius or Moony noticed he was crying. He wasn’t going to do that, and give Sirius more reason to call him a child.
He didn’t notice that Sirius had to wipe his eyes, too.
