Comic-con
So Lenna and I decided, while on vacation, 'hey, we're here, why not check it out?' We were very worried about the wheelchair situation, because the info on their website had been very misleading. I called ahead and found out you got a manual for the con, and it was free, you just put down a deposit. Okay. It's Saturday, there's a Farscape panel and some other stuff. So we get on the shuttle and ride for about half an hour to go like...four blocks. It was insane.
The building itself was hell to navigate. I think, when building the San Deigo Convention enter, the designers said 'let's make a biulding that's completely impossible for handicap people to get around! Let's use lots and lots of steep stairs and no ramps! Oh, we have to have some handicap access? Okay! A tiny elevator in the middle of the building nowhere near the doors!'
I kid you not.
So finally we get registered. They bring me a wheelchair, we find out then that Lenna could have gotten in free since she's my attendant. If we'd checked in at disabled services. Which was at the other fucking end of the huge ass building!!!
So we end up outside the Small Press room. Where the Penny Arcade Booth is. We go in, and find it relatively easily. All s going well. There's one slightly creepy guy (also in a wheelchair) who asks how much it would cost for me to cane him. (I have my cane with me.) He turned out to be not that creepy, afterwards while we were trying to get into the short line for the booth. I got a Twisp and Catsby shirt which is now autographed, and met Gabe and Tycho which was so totally cool. They're awesome people.
Then we headed upstairs. We caught the end of a Smallville panel. It was pretty interesting, actually. We were right down in front, due to that being where handicapped seating was. After that was the Farscape panel. We were just feet away from Brian Henson, Claudia Black and Ben Browder.
Claudia Black is amazing. She is one of the funniest, most beautiful women I have ever encountered. She told some of the best stories, and actually talked with the people who asked questions. We got to see a sneak preview of the new mini-series (it was the first time Claudia and Ben had seen it too, which was awesome.)
I actually got up to ask a question. I staggered to the line, was allowed to go first because I was havin trouble standing, and it was amazing. To actually have Claudia Black and Ben Browder talk to me. Lenna got pictures of their reactions to my question. (Which was how their characters had impacted them as an actors.) It was just fucking awesome.
Steve Kemplar was there, too, but he looked really out of it and didn't talk much. There were some awesome stories told, and a lot of insight into the show that I'm glad I was able to be there for.
Then I wanted to get Yutaka Minowa's autograph. (character designer and animation director for VHD: Bloodlust.) We couldn't find the fucking Urban Vision's booth. It couldn't be right out in the open like the stupid Funimation booth, noooo. (That is whoring out FMA like no there's no tomorrow, the bastards) So we gave up and left. Literally. We went out to dinner instead. So yeah. It sort of sucked, other than the amazing Farscape panel. And yes, the icon is a joke from the panel.
Comic-con: so overrated, in my opinion.

She was fucking hysterical! The 'carjacking' story? That was one of the funniest things I've heard in my life!

Gah...details. I suck with details. There was a lot of defending Kemplar for the cancelation of the series, a lot of discusion about how the show wouldn't have existed on any other network. Brian Henson talked a lot about how well the show came together, and how they lucked out with the cast and crew. Claudia Black told the story of how she had the script for the mini-series stolen out of her car. Ben Browder talked about how he didn't consider the viewers to be 'fans' but rather an audience, and the last step in the storytelling process. Uh, what else. There was a lot of talk about the last time Claudia and Ben were at Comiccon. It was really sort of informal, and they were all pretty relaxed and awesome.
And I will be posting all of the pictures!

...Did you happen to wander by the Mirrormask panel and Neil Gaiman?
