It's Makeover Time!

WE HAS FOOD!

Good shopping day today! Very, very good shopping day today. We have plenty of food, which is wonderful, and I'm feeling far less panicky after talking to my folks. I'm just going to focus on my cooking and the house right now.

So today, I'm hitting the thrift stores I can hit within walking distance and scoping out the wares. We're looking for a long low bookshelf, seating of some kind for the yard, and decorative pieces. Or possibly I'll be walking to Tru Value to look for new knobs to replace the bathroom cabinet knobs with.* I don't know what yet, but I have A Project. I'm always happy when I have A Project.

So, speaking of The Project....

Designing on a very tight budget! What are your favorite tips and tricks? Obviously mine is as simple as 'thrift stores, thrift stores, thrift stores!' but I'm just curious as to other little things that can be done to make over a nice place into a stellar place. Because I'm going for stellar.

If I can't work like a normal person, fine. But I will be damned if I can't manage to cook restaurant quality food for Team Venture and keep a beautiful home. And eventually, once spring comes, I shall be a farmer.

We've got the soil for it, as we discovered yesterday. ;)

*I may also say 'fuck that for today' and get my hair done. I have to see what salons I can get to in the area, and if they're cheap.

Farmer Fey...has a nice ring to it!

I think you should get your hair done. Treat yourself to it. It will make you feel better.

Oh and, I forgot. We tend to just decorate and design as we have the money for it. A little paint here and there. Instead of doing it all at once. Gradual process.

INDEED! The soil in the yard is extremely rich and fertile, so growing is not an issue.

I'm thinking about it, since it's been a good two years since I last got it done, but on the other hand...house stuff.

Fey, you've seen our place. You know that my idea of wall art is just a bunch of calendar pages that have been separated and tacked up. :P

I'm willing to play taxi if you need it. We're going to be moving some stuff now that Cody's kind of awake, but later in the afternoon we should definitely have some time!

YES BUT IT LOOKS AWESOME!

Oh man, are you sure? we know you've been seeing a lot of us lately... (We do have a coupon for Stepping Stones, though....

I'm actually...I don't even know. We went to the DAV, and I decided not to bother checking electronics because they never have record players, and as I was in line, the guy two people ahead goes 'hey, how much for that turntable back there?' and bought it right in front of me for ten bucks. *headdesks* I almost started crying right there in the store.

Um... are you sure? We've been practically living over there for the last few days... you've got to be getting sick of seeing so much of us!

(Cody says that for $5 or food he'll play taxi anytime. XD)

Seriously, though, I want to hit up Stepping Stones to see if they have any more pants that fit me, and I have to go to Hastings to pick up those boxes of abandoned books sometime soon...

Dude, of course not! :D

(We have hot dogs, buns, and a firepit... :D)

Okay, awesome. I gave you a call about half an hour/an hour ago, so whenever you guys are up for it...

OH! AND IF YOU GRAB THIS WEEK'S PENNY SAVER, THERE IS A STEPPING STONE'S COUPON IN IT!

I say go for the hair. The house will be there to decorate, but it sounds to me like you need some 'Fey Time'. Go to the salon and then spend a day at home primping. Do nails, makeup, put on some pretty clothes just because. I doubt the house is going to begrudge you a day for yourself.

*would do this herself, but has no one to do it with. Her room mates are nowhere near girly*

You don't know our house. ;) It's called Silent Hill for a reason! But yeah.... I'm seriously considering doing just that, especially right now. I somehow let the one item I've been searching for for years slip right out from under my nose. *headesks*

I am such an Ikea whore, it's ridiculous. They have a zillion and five little things for decorating your home, all for the whopping sum of sixty cents. (Though, sometimes it even gets as expensive as *gasp* $2.) They also have big huge bolts of really interesting and cheap fabric that is perfect for whatever.

I can probably come up with more helpful stuff later, when I'm looking around the house to see what I've done with it.

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My friend, I am going to tell you something that will shock, disgust and terrify you. You'd best be sitting down for it.

We don't have Ikea here.

[identity profile] attilatehbun.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of figured that you didn't.

but still, there is interwubs. though i recall you having issues with ordering like that?

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it sucks, I love Ikea. But yeah, I can't order things online, which also sucks.
