A Great Big Barrel of Random - Rl, Fandom and RP

This morning was a good morning. :D Well, technically morning. I slept until around noon. But I needed to catch up on sleep - I ended up sick as all hell due to lack of sleep and lack of fluids left me nauseous and about to pass out. We did go to the midnight release of the latest Eragon book - just because [livejournal.com profile] summoneddestiny was stuck running it, and there was free food. I even dressed up! Because I'll use any excuse to dress up. And apparently I passed off as one of the main characters, which led people to believe I actually knew crap about the books. Which I don't, at all. Until last night, I thought Eragon was the damn dragon.

Anyway, there was free pizza and soda, and a trivia contest that was essentially poor [livejournal.com profile] summoneddestiny was handed the questions to like an hour before, and there were no answers. Which meant [livejournal.com profile] nijawial and I stood next to her with a copy of the book to look things up. *headdesk*

They were also having a kick ass sale. I ended up getting the first Trinity Blood manga for two bucks, and the entire first three seasons of Sliders on DVD for 20. I was willing to splurge. I know Sliders was a horrible show, but...I loved it. At least the first three seasons. And two whole boxed sets that cheap? How could I resist?

Oh, and we watched Zorak om nom nom on a little grasshopper yesterday. He's a finicky eater - he only likes the soft, squishy bits. ;) He also seems to like to eat while hanging upside down off the top of his house.

And I'm off hiatus at my RPs! Maria's making friends with Darth Vader, Henry and Eileen are being absolutely adorable as usual - and awkward :D - and Henry is also trying to console a slightly distraught Tohru.

I...sadly think I may have to drop Dante. I'm just not feeling her anymore, and it's not fair to everyone else and myself to try and struggle with a character I'm losing touch with. I've enjoyed playing her, and all her threads, and her relationships with other characters, but... I just lost touch. As happens. :/ And I've been kind of itching to app Myre there, so....

In [livejournal.com profile] damned news, Naomi's set for a night of whatever, and is going to meet up with Matsuda finally! Which should be interesting, especially since she's currently outfitted, as Arlene so aptly put it, like a kung fu hooker. :D Hughes will be with Roy, Lust's running into Hohenheim, Valyn gets to meet a newbie, Citan's hanging with his usual NS buddies, Tamaki's got clinic duty, and I'll figure stuff out for the other two. :D

And now, a meme!

If you've read my fic (or roleplay, roleplay narratives, whathave), what is/are the characteristic(s) that stand(s) out the most?

All your works has a baseline standard of quality, and your sex scene always come across and new and different. Ross and Winry, for example, seems to have sex different or the sex feels different than when it's Lust and Ross, for example.

The way you convey sensations, especially the sense of touch, stands out for me. Also the way you convey emotion without spelling it out in some kind of awkward way.

(And I'm loving the Henry/Eileen awkwardness. They are too cute.)

I thought Sliders was a pretty good show, the first two seasons. Then it started to go down in the third season, because of the producers' idiotic moves (or rather, David Peckinpah's decisions. Firing Wade's actress because she wasn't hot enough? WTH?). I don't mind magic and vampires, but they have to be rational (yes, there is such a thing :P), and portrayed in a serious manner with an alternate history that's detailed, not just look like they're spoofing the movies of the summer.

I haven't seen the parallel universes concept used a lot on television, except for an occasional episode on Stargate or another series, which is a shame, since it really is one of the most interesting concepts on television.

Seasons 4 and 5 on Sci-Fi were okay, but they changed too much. There were only a few episodes, like 'California Reich', that really hearkened back to what Sliders was about. And Quinn made the show, so when he was written out because of contractual disputes, it really took away from the storyline. Mallory didn't cut it, and it was idiotic, the way he almost didn't care about the man stuck inside him thanks to some experiment. Have some compassion, you freak.

Maria's making friends with Darth Vader

Wow, Maria and Darth Vader! That ought to be something. Maybe Maria can finally tear his attention away from that bore Padme.* ;) I can only hope Maria can come back from death in this one (as in SH2), 'cause if he accidentally kills her, we know what'll happen: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" ;D

(Just kidding, Padme fans. I like Padme. :D)

I never understood the reasoning that Wade wasn't 'hot enough'. I think she's absolutely lovely! That's pretty much when I wandered away, and was only watching sporadically if there was nothing else on.

It's one of those classics I remember watching with friends, chomping popcorn, etc. And I couldn't pass up the chance to get three seasons for so cheap, and relive some happy memories and all of that. I couldn't keep up with seasons 4 and 5, at all. :/

Hahahaha, yeah, it mostly consisted of Maria asking a lot of questions and Darth Vader telling her about Jedi and the Force. :D I enjoyed it greatly - they need to chat again.
