Have You Been Shooting Dope Into Your Scrotum?
So it's been months, I know, and no one probably even realizes the thread is still going, but bang the gong and sound the trumpets because canonically, Scar is finally a man! ;) And can I say how amusing I find it that Scar and Lust had actual sex before Roy and Hughes? Shall we call that irony or dark humor?
The weather is atrocious, and I'm losing my internet on and off, so fair warning now if suddenly I stop responding.
And now, the mystery of the dirty whites.
Last week, I did a load of whites. My undershirts and boxers and sports bras, things of that nature. They weren't stained when they were loaded into the wash, and the only detergent used was my normal earth friendly organic detergent that I've used hundreds of times before.
And yet, when I pulled them forth from the dryer, they were covered in strange, smeared, black stains.
I sent them through again, but to no avail. And now I was quite perplexed. I inspected the washing machine. Nothing. The dryer. Nothing. My own hands and clothing were clean. I would have said it was hair color, but as I haven't gotten around to filling in my gray in about three months, that seemed ridiculously unlikely.
Yesterday night, fed up with my stained underthings, I finally plugged up my workroom sink, dumped in detergent and straight bleach, and left the things to soak. I hung them out to dry over night, and retrieved them this morning.
The bleach seems to have made some sort of difference. There is still obvious staining, but it's much lighter. I think another immersion of corrosive cleaning agents should do the trick.
I'm rather certain this is one of those stumbling points where I once again remember how terribly adult and boring my life has become. An entire LJ entry that focuses mostly on getting out stubborn stains?
Someone save me, quick! ;)

I have no advice on stains. I'd say you left a pen somewhere but I'd think you'd have found the rest of it.

I thought that at first, but there was no evidence of any pen anywhere in the wash. It's a mystery I've been puzzling over for more than a week, and I still have absolutely no explanation. The closest I can determine is that there had been something coating the inside of the washer or dryer that left no trace afterward, because it had been transferred to my clothing.
But that begs the question of what it was, and how it got there in the first place!

and Ack! are those the same stains you mentioned before? or is this from a new load?

And yes, those same magical stains. All my deductive skills have left me at a loss. But they are getting whiter, so....

That is weird. Maybe you had something in a pocket?

There were no pockets. It was all underthings. Undershirts, tanks, boxers, sports bras.... I swabbed every inch of that washer and dryer with Q-tips, looking for any traces of anything in there, but there was nothing.

Good Morning Ladies...
Are you still interested in getting out of your parents houses?
Do you want to live within walking distance of my office, the square, Sonic, Hastings etc?
Would you like a 2 bedroom, 1 bath free-standing house with a yard?
Or...
A newer 2 bedroom, 1 bath in a 4-plex in the same area?
If so give me a call!

I WANT EITHER! Oh my god...a house with a yard? Two bedrooms and a full bath?
And in that area? Holy fuck, that's perfect for us!
Icon used because even Alexander Wang is amazed and shocked by how perfect that would be, and can hardly believe it!

Also she made the suggestion that either a pen, or something that is meltable, could have gotten on the drum itself and only shows up only after you run it (like it went through the wash before you ever did the whites and it got on the drum itself).
You might want to do a test fabric and see if it shows up again. If it looks more like pen than grease, then you had a pen explode in there. If it looks more like a grease stain, then you have your drum leaking grease.

It honestly doesn't look like either grease or ink. It's really weird. It's almost like...charcoal was rubbed over it. I've never seen anything quite like it - having had pens and grease stains before.
