(no subject)

I would like to apologize to my housemates for the screaming, thumping, banging, scratching, furniture lurching and everything else that went on last night.

As you've probably now figured out, I get a little bit into my video games. Luckily, Link and I finally defeated the giant stone head and hands, and he took a little mind-fucking trip and now has the Master Sword. We're all very proud of him.

I still need a Legend of Zelda icon.

Zelda Rant

In my recent rather rocky time, I have been amusing myself with the latest Legend of Zelda game for the Gamecube. I've played every Zelda game except the ones for Gameboy Advanced, and I am a devout fan of the old 80s TV show. I have watched Link and Zelda grow, evolve, and be shown from various different angles. And recently, I haven't been at all happy with the characterization of either of them.

I liked Link better when he was self assured, brave, older than twelve, and knew exactly who and what he was. I can deal with chibi -Link, since he doesn't talk or do much of anything other than be controlled by you. I sure as hell liked Zelda a lot better when she was actually Zelda. She's the princess. The damsel in distress. I understand the desire to make her into a strong female character, but when they do that, they always make her something else. This bothers me. I think that's why I like the cartoon Zelda the best. She's kick ass, and she's still a Princess! She's not running around pretending to be something else, or any other shit like that.

It's fully possible to be both the princess and the strong female character. And strong female character doesn't mean wise talking bitch.

And that is my rant for the day.

I hope that the next Zelda game (the one with the amazing CGI movie quality graphics) is a step forward, rather than a step back.

And GIP.
